The Young Composers Competition!
For students 18 and under who reside in Suffolk or Nassau County

- The deadline for submission is October 31, 2009
- The winner(s) will be announced on January 31, 2010
- First Prize will be a performance of your composition by the Sound Symphony Orchestra in Spring 2010
(The judges may select one, two, or no winners.)
Compositions for symphonic or chamber orchestra must be 5 to 10 minutes in length and may include the following instrumentation:
3 flutes/piccolo; 2 oboes; 2 B-flat clarinets; 2 bassoons;
4 horns; 3 B-flat trumpets; 3 trombones; tuba; timpani + 3 percussion;
violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, bass
To enter, each student must:
- Be under the age of 19 as of January 1, 2010
- Submit a completed application form
- Include a brief personal biography and a description of the piece
- Provide a computer-generated score
- Provide a CD or cassette of the piece (MIDI realization or piano reduction)
- Send a $50 non-refundable submission fee made out to The Sound Symphony
The first prize winner will a provide a computer-generated set of parts by March 31, 2010
