Solo Competition

May 4 & 5, 2012

The Sound Symphony Orchestra will hold its annual solo competition on:      

Friday, 5/4/12 and Saturday, 5/5/12                                                                                

Comsewogue High School                                                                                                                         565 Bicycle Path                                                                                                                                                Port Jefferson Station, New York

The competition is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists.  Contestants must be under the age of 19 as of January 1, 2013.  Suitable repertoire includes any solo piece with orchestral accompaniment.  All works must be performed in their entirety.  It is recommended that contestants memorize their solo piece. 

Contestants will be judged on overall performance, style, and suitability of performance with orchestral accompaniment.  All contestants will be auditioned privately.  Accompanists are mandatory and the responsibility of the contestants.  A second keyboard will be available for those accompanying pianists.

The judges reserve the right to select more than one winner or to select no winner.  The decisions of the judges are final.  

The winner(s) will perform as a featured soloist with the Sound Symphony at one of the orchestra's 2012-2013 season concerts.

 Applications must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2012, and must include a non-refundable $50.00 application fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to:

Please include your biography along with the application.  Receipt of the completed application will be acknowledged by the competition committee, in writing, via postal mail.  Audition times will be specified.
