About the Soloist: Yvonne Yang

Yvonne Yang Yvonne Yang, a 17-year-old junior in high school, has been studying piano since the age of 5. She has enjoyed success at numerous competitions and has been given many opportunities to perform on stage. In the past, she has won the First Prize in the Flagello Competition (1999), a Winner's Prize for the Concerto Division of the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey (2001), the Joseph Liccardo Sr. Piano Award (First Place) for the Associated Music Teachers League Competition (2003), the Bertha F. Lang First Prize Winner at the 5th Annual Empire State Competition (2004), the Honorable Mention award at the Friday Woodmere Music Club Young Artists Competition (2005), and the Sound Symphony Solo Competition 2005). She is a grant recipient of the Children's Foundation for the Arts.

Yvonne is also a member of the Perlman Music Program. For the past 3 years, she has taken part in its summer sessions, working under great mentors. During the year, she performs in Works-in-Progress concerts as well as special gala benefits in such venues as Steinway Hall, Zankel Hall, and Carnegie Weill Hall. Yvonne has performed in behalf of Women for Women, the United Nations, and the United Jewish Appeal. Other performances in her community have helped fundraise for organizations including the Westchester Oratorio Society and Armstrong Chamber Concerts.

Yvonne has been a scholarship student at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division since 2000 and has received the Parents Association Award every year. She is the co-recipient of the 2005-2006 Ralph Zola Memorial Scholarship. She currently studies with Miyoko Lotto.
