The Sound Symphony was founded in 1984 to promote the appreciation of classical music throughout Suffolk County. Most of its members are music educators, however as a true egalitarian community orchestra, it accepts any musician who brings adequate skill and enthusiasm to the ensemble. It is the community orchestra-in-residence at Comsewogue High School in Port Jefferson Station and performs 4 concerts there during the academic year. Its outdoor summer pops concerts are scattered throughout the Eastern End of Long Island. Many of its young concerto competition winners have blossomed into successful careers as professional musicians. Above all, the ensemble strives to achieve a high standard of musicianship and professionalism as it brings the joy of classical music to all those enticed to listen.
